The Administration
Somalia Ship Register Limited administers vessel registration and related flag services under the sovereign authority of the Federal Republic of Somalia, exercised through the Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport.
The statutory basis is the Somalia Maritime Law (Law No. 5 of 1989), Articles 38–50, together with the Maritime Vessel Registration Regulations. These provisions establish the legal framework governing eligibility for registration, documentary requirements, and safeguards against dual registration and fraudulent applications.
SSRL conducts its administrative and operational activities from İstanbul. Sovereign authority over the Somalia flag, registry policy and the national register remains vested in the Federal Republic of Somalia through the Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport in Mogadishu.
Policy
To establish the Somalia Ship Register as a trusted, transparent, and internationally respected flag administration, founded on full compliance with IMO instruments and applicable international maritime conventions.
SSRL aims to develop a modern, responsible, and quality-driven fleet, progressively increasing both its capacity and standards while safeguarding the integrity and reputation of the Somalia flag within the international maritime community.
Our mission is to rebuild and operate the Somalia Ship Register through a transparent, compliant, and professionally managed registration system that meets the requirements of applicable international maritime conventions and internationally recognized maritime standards.
SSRL is committed to providing reliable, efficient, and transparent ship registration and flag administration services, supported by robust due diligence, KYC, and vessel screening procedures designed to prevent fraudulent, unlawful, or deceptive registrations. We are committed to ensuring that vessels flying the Somalia flag comply with applicable international safety, security, environmental, and seafarer standards, while developing a fleet focused not only on growth in numbers, but also on quality, compliance, and responsible operation.
